We train educators on an improvement science protocol that helps them better understand when and for whom their creative approaches work. Then, we bring teachers together to learn from each other as a network. For teachers, it’s about improving student outcomes. For school leaders, we work with you to implement strategies that resolve broader challenges.

About Teach & Lead Bold
LEAD BOLD
Taking a page from the DC Bold Schools playbook, Lead Bold is a site-based school leadership improvement team program co-implemented by an EK12 coach, school leadership, and experienced educators at a single school.
Focus on 1-2 broader challenges the school wants to rapidly improve like chronic absenteeism, student bullying, teacher wellbeing, reading interventions, special education inclusion, etc.
Connect their data systems to create school and student dashboards that illuminate the school’s bright spots
Work with an award-winning EK12 improvement coach and former school leader to implement short-interval action research cycles at a school, department, or grade level
Collaborate with other Lead Bold school improvement teams focused on similar outcomes across the District quarterly to share and learn from each other
TEACH BOLD
Teach Bold gives individual teachers the opportunity to tackle the toughest challenges in their classroom (e.g. academic outcomes for students with disabilities, social-emotional wellbeing of vulnerable student populations, etc.) with data, science, and strategic collaborative support from experts and colleagues across the city.
Collaboratives involve teachers across multiple schools and LEAs focused on unique challenges.
EK12 uses citywide data and community voice to determine priority areas annually.
Teachers work with an EK12 improvement science coach to implement inquiry cycles that test and improve their change ideas in weeks, not months and years.
Often, a content area specialist from a partner organization joins coaching sessions when needed.
Teach Bold educators meet quarterly to share and learn from each other.
Strategic Analysis
Strategic analysis in education is high-quality research paired with timely and sometimes predictive analytics. Which interventions worked this quarter? Do we need to adjust to improve student outcomes? How are economically disadvantaged students feeling about life and school? How do our results compare to similar schools?
These questions are a few examples where strategic data analysis can change the trajectory of equitable student outcomes. The EmpowerK12 team begins strategic analysis engagements by leading with a conversation about purpose and goals. Then, we dig deep into your data using top-line mathematical algorithms and hone-in on analyses that specifically address the purpose. Strategic analysis services include:

PREDICTIVE ANALYTICS
Predictive analytics use information from school data stores to find statistically significant patterns or trends in student data, allowing educators to address key programmatic and strategic impact questions.

DATA STORES
Data stores securely bring together historical data from multiple sources, following industry standard Ed-Fi protocol to ensure interoperability with new systems.
DATA WAREHOUSE
Data warehouses utilize current and longitudinal data from the data stores to create data tables that are optimized for analyses aligned to a school’s mission and vision.
INTERACTIVE DASHBOARDS
Interactive dashboards clearly communicate the most important metrics and allow educators to dig deeper by using filters, sorting, and drill-down capabilities.

Teach Bold Initiative
The Teach Bold initiative trains a collaborative of experienced teachers cross-sector to utilize improvement science, a structured data-driven protocol, to increase their effectiveness and confidence in the classroom, leading to better teacher retention as well as rapid academic and social-emotional gains for students.
Student & Educator Wellbeing Surveys
These are challenging times for our students and educators. This collaborative project’s mission is to better understand our students and educators from a holistic wellbeing perspective. We start with surveys designed by local DC school-based mental health experts. Then, a network of support orgs identify bright spots and provide strategic development and resources for educators.
High Impact Tutoring Data
More educational service time leads to improved results for our most vulnerable students. EmpowerK12 supports DC’s high impact tutoring initiative by collecting data from and sharing information across schools, tutoring orgs, teachers, and tutors to monitor and improve the impact of student tutoring work across the city.
